What is a Gravatar and what’s it for, you ask? It’s a globally recognized Avatar developed by WordPress developer, Automattic. So that means it started life and use via WordPress. This identifier –your photo or logo or icon – is a great way for people to begin to recognize you, and to put a face to the views you express. I use one. Here’s how it works.

Create an icon or square logo or adapt a photo to a square avatar-thumbnail size. Now you have the artwork for your Gravatar that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you comment on a blog.
Avatars help identify your posts on other blogs and web forums, and with this Gravatar, you can now have the same one on every site. Just use your Gravatar-account email address for the post – blog – forum you are authoring. That’s all there is to it; it’s then Automattic, excuse the pun.
You need to set it up at gravatar.com. There are options for rollovers, or click-links that offer more information about you that you can choose to show, or not. It depends upon what you want people to know about you that might make your comments, other posts, and forums more meaningful. Seems a simple way to do that to me.

Do think it’s cool? or not? Love to know what you’re using.
