Get WordPress Working for You
In my opinion the best way to take control of your website is with a customized WordPress website. WordPress is free software that powers over 25 million sites around the world. You’ll access your site with an easy-to-use control panel where you can edit pages or add blog posts in a word-processor-like editor. No intimidating program-learning hurdles to jump here.
Greg Custer, vice-president of Destination Ventures Ltd. and long-time Erickson Creative client, says, “I’m no computer wiz, so it was a relief to try WordPress for Mexico website updates and find that I could actually guess how to do it. I stop short of doing anything complicated, but I can handle adding posts and pages and updates to them quickly and easily.
I usually purchase professional WordPress theme designs from premium theme developers (around $80/theme+extras) and then customize to match your brand. Building websites this way gives you great features and the ability to easily update your site, along with a look that will impress your customers. For a small business, there’s no better option.
Erickson Creative Can Make It Right
If you already have a WordPress site, that’s excellent. You’ve already made an important choice that can bring you a step closer toward the success you want. I’m ready to add your branding, if needed, adjust the stories for customers’ points of view, add any needed keywords to all the pages for successful searches, and plugins for specific needs of your company. Your goals will be the guidelines of this effort.
For those of you who would like to self-evaluate your website, download my 10-Step Website Eval Form to use for your a website checklist to see where we might make improvements. I will use this form myself if you would like me to do the evaluation.
Your WordPress website should include many of these features:
- A page about you and your company – the important “About Us” page that all websites need.
- An obvious, easy-to-use Contact form, or two (the best plugin for this is Gravity Forms and has a fee.)
- Social media account links
- A photo gallery or portfolio to show off all your great work or products
- A blog/news section providing stories of customer successes and good use of your products, as well as updates on new products or services, and company activities. And, don’t forget photos for each story! (very important)
- A Google map with directions to your business
- Google Analytics to see how traffic is coming to your website (free account required)
- My recommended SEO plugin, WordPress SEO by Yoast (free plugin).
- Plugins for all kinds of special needs like e-commerce and donations, count-downs, member logins, polls and surveys, and much more. Just ask. Some are free; some have fees.
So what don’t you have that you want from that list? Are there functions you’d like your website to do that aren’t listed? You guessed it. There’s a WordPress plugin for that. I’ll find it and get it working on your WordPress site.
